Hotel Construction Increases in the Caribbean and Mexico.

According to the STR Construction Pipeline Report from August 2014, the Caribbean and Mexico hotel growth pipeline includes 164 hotels with a total capacity of 27,621 rooms. Properties in Qatar for sale

In comparison to August 2013, this reflects a 17.7% rise in rooms under contract and a 21.9 percent increase in rooms under construction. Rooms in the Construction, Final Planning, and Planning stages are included in the total number of rooms under contract; however, rooms in the Unconfirmed stage are excluded.

In the first eight months of 2014, 96 hotels with 14,848 rooms opened in the city. 28 new hotels with 4,973 rooms are scheduled to open in the rest of 2014. The Unaffiliated segment would gain the most rooms (1,971 rooms in five hotels), followed by the Upper Midscale segment (1,031 rooms in nine hotels) and the Luxury segment (1,031 rooms in nine hotels) (935 rooms in three hotels).

A total of 58 hotels with a total of 10,848 rooms are scheduled to open in 2015. The Luxury segment is expected to add 2,838 rooms across 10 hotels, making it the segment with the most room additions. The Upper Midscale segment (2,287 rooms in 17 hotels), the Unaffiliated segment (2,181 rooms in six hotels), and the Upscale segment (2,181 rooms in six hotels) are all forecast to add more than 2,000 rooms in 2015. New hotel construction in the Caribbean and Mexico has increased by 22%.

According to the STR Construction Pipeline Report published in July 2014, the Caribbean and Mexico hotel growth pipeline includes 167 hotels with a total capacity of 28,140 rooms.

In comparison to July 2013, this reflects a 21.8 percent rise in rooms under contract and a 23.2% increase in rooms under construction. Rooms in the In Construction, Final Planning, and Planning phases are included in the total rooms Under Contract, but not those in the Unconfirmed stage.

With 6,028 rooms under contract, the Luxury category accounted for the most rooms under contract (21.4 percent) among the Chain Scale divisions. The Upscale segment (20.9 percent with 5,887 rooms), the Upper Midscale segment (20.4 percent with 5,746 rooms), and the Unaffiliated segment (20.4 percent with 5,746 rooms) each accounted for more than 15.0 percent of rooms Under Contract (19.5 percent with 5,480 rooms).

The most rooms under construction in the area were in the Luxury segment (29.0 percent with 3,715 rooms) and the Unaffiliated segment (25.3 percent with 3,242 rooms).

 

New hotel construction in the Caribbean and Mexico is on the rise.

According to STR's March 2014 Construction Pipeline Study, there is a significant increase in new hotel growth in both the Caribbean and Mexico compared to last year.

According to STR, the Caribbean and Mexico's latest hotel growth pipeline now includes 162 new hotels with a total of 26,647 rooms.

In comparison to March 2013, there was a 21.5 percent rise in rooms under contract and an 11.7 percent increase in rooms under construction. Rooms in the In Construction, Final Planning, and Planning stages are included in the total number of rooms under contract; however, rooms in the unconfirmed stage are excluded.

If all 525 rooms under contract open, Haiti will have the highest projected supply growth (+49.2%) among the countries in the region. The Bahamas (+21.6 percent with 2,990 rooms), Turks and Caicos (+18.4 percent with 545 rooms), St. Kitts/Nevis (+15.5 percent with 245 rooms), Dominica (+14 percent with 90 rooms), and Anguilla (+14 percent with 80 rooms) all announced projected room growth of more than 10%.
